Sunrise at Jasai

Shikra at the entrance to the village. It is also called Satana
as the local village boys told us. While I was photographing this wonderful sharp eyed bird, a few boys joined us and in the process the bird got disturbed and flew away.

this is probably the siberian bush chat. Oh coming all the way from siberia to spend the winters in Navi Mumbai.
Indeed we should be welcoming these winged visitors. Instead we are destroying their habitat . The six lane road coming up in the area right in the middle of mangroves. There is no outlet /inlet for the tides to come in thus suffocating these lovely mangroves.

The best shot. This wonderful bird just gave me a minute to shoot this picture before it flew away.
I was waiting at the perch and was sure that it would come back after fishing..

Rufous tailed lark. The area abounds in larks and can be called lark territory.

another view of the lark

A black shouldered kite eagerly watching our next move.

A graceful marsh harrier hunting with the village in thebackground.

A grey heron flying high.

Ah another lark,,, the short toes lark.

a close up of the short toed lark.

the siberian bush chat.?

On the way to JNPT , Julius spotted the kestrel.
We were following the bird in our car and finally it perched on this tree about 15 feet away. We were sitting in our car and became our natural hide and gave us an excellent photo opportunity.

A close up portraint of this wonderful raptor.

At JNPT we saw a lot of these birds. This lone black winged stilt taking a nap an afternoon siesta.

The stiltscape at JNPT
Ah those lovely colours of the small blue kingfisher at Jasai.
